Welcome to KSS Personal Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education!

Please see the attached overview document that explains the curriculum and the knowledge, skills and vocabulary progression map from Reception to Year 6.

We have also began creating Knowledge Organisers (KO) for each half term and these have been added below. These are child-friendly documents that demonstrate how we will implement the new curiculum, including the powerful knowledge that we wish children to learn after each topic. The impact of our curriculum will be based on how well the children retain this knowledge.

PSHE (personal, social, health and economic) education is an ‘important and necessary part of all pupil’s education.’ (Department for Education)

At Kirkstall St Stephen's C of E Primary School we aim to provide a PSHE education which ‘gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.’ (PSHE Association)

We follow the 'You me and PSHE' Islington programme. PSHE is taught as a discrete subject once a week by the class teachers. Relationship and Sex Education is also covered as part of this PSHE programme across school from Year 2 to Year 6 in line with goverment requirments.

A copy of the current Relationship and Sex Education Policy is attached.

As a school we also teach Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) to enhance our curriculum provision and to ensure our pupils are given the best opportunitiy to be prepared for life in the wider world.
