Dear Parents, Carers and Our Local Community,

We are looking at ways to continue to support pupils’ learning and development in school and are considering how best to make use of the resources available to us. We are currently in a crucial period for many children as we try and rebuild confidence and knowledge following the disruption and stress caused to many over the last 14 months. We have therefore decided to recruit volunteers under three categories to support us in our quest to enable all pupils to thrive!

This opportunity may help provide work experience opportunities, or enable neighbours, grandparents and members of the community to get involved in supporting school life. We will really value your support. If you think a role would be suitable for you, or someone who you know, please help spread the word.

Reading Heroes

We are looking for a team of reading heroes who can regularly attend school for 2 hours or more, to help us to support our pupils develop their reading skills:

  • A confider reader
  • Have an interest in supporting pupils develop a love of reading and passion for books
  • Like to engage in conversation with young children and inspire young minds
  • Have a regular 2 hour slot a week when they are available to volunteer
  • Will allow school to complete a DBS form

Skills Heroes

 Our skills heroes should:

  • Have a desire to volunteer working with young children.
  • Be confident to support pupils developing skills such as: handwriting, fine motor skills (threading and weaving), gross motor skills (e.g. throwing a ball)
  • Like to engage in conversation with young children and inspire young minds

Further information on Hero Roles

If you can commit and would love to be part of our Reading Hero or Skills Hero team, we will process your DBS form (Disclosure and Barring Service) and support you in becoming part of the team. The DBS forms often take 2 weeks to be approved once relevant details have been sent off. We ask for the commitment of 2 hours a week due to the financial cost of the DBS form (our school budgets are already very tight!).

Covid-19

  • You would be allocated a single class (bubble) to work with (not necessarily the class in which you have a relative).
  • You may wear a mask but that is personal choice.
  • We can provide you with lateral flow tests.
  • We ask that vulnerable persons only volunteer once both vaccinations have been received.
  • It may be possible that the activities be done outside- weather dependant.

Educational Visits Volunteer

We are also looking to build up a list volunteers who may be available to join us on school trips on an ad hoc basis.

You may be suited to this role if you:

  • Would like to support the school in developing extracurricular visits and opportunities,
  • Have flexibility within your life style or working life to be able to take a day out of your routine to support a visit
  • You would not need to be DBS checked for this role as you would not be left as a sole supervisor at any point- you may be allocated a group to support- under the class teacher’s supervision.
  • Should the trip start early or later than the school day, school would provide after school club for volunteers on the trip day to enable parents to attend worry free.
  • Please note- the trips offered may be for any of the classes across school. You would be given full details of the trip before any commitment is required- this initial process is to express interest only.
