School Meal Charges from September 2025

Due to the ever-increasing cost of living, Catering Leeds have notified us of an increase to the cost of school meals for your children.  From September the cost per day will increase to £2.90. Making the weekly charge of £14.50.

We apologise that this is a significant increase. However, we are working with the catering team in school to create menus and meals that are value for money and even more appealing to the children.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are still able to have a school meal free of charge under the Government's Universal Free School Meal Scheme and so, for those families there is no impact. Unfortunately, for the families of children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, this is not the case and the price will increase from September.

If, as a parent, you are in receipt of Universal Credit, the conditions have changed to remove the earning cap for Free School Meal entitlement. Where previously your income had to be below £7,400 per annum, there is now no lower limit. So, if you are in receipt of the Universal Credit Payments, your children are entitled to a school meal free of charge, no matter what your household earnings or which year group they are in. (The children in Reception, year 1 and year 2 are also included in this scheme, even though you get your meals free under a different scheme, it is always best to make a claim, and then it stays with them for their time in Primary School)

Please let Mrs Skelton or Mrs Wren know if this applies to you, and you want to claim the FSM award, and we can start the ball rolling from school. Otherwise, you can do this yourself through Universal Credit.

As always, booking and paying (if applicable) can be done on our School Gateway App.

We will always provide a meal for a child who does not have one booked, but it will always be the sandwich option. We would prefer you to make the choices with them to take advantage of all the choices available.
