Year 4

Welcome to Summer!
It seems so strange to be ending for summer this way but I am so pleased we will all be back together again in September! Please check the Class Dojo account to see a little message from me! I will also be updating Classdojo regularly with mini challenges to complete over summer.
If you would like to get a jump start on Year 5 I will post below some fantastic Maths and English revision booklets to help you get ready for Year 5! I will also add some great recipes to try at home. Please let me know via Classdojo if you manage to complete any of them and bring them in with you after the Summer break - along with your transition booklets :)
Have a fantastic Summer and stay safe! I can't wait to see you all in September.
Miss Williams
I am getting ready for the start of term and have created a workbook list with the CGP website. CGP books are fantastic and we use them within our curriculum. I will have many of the books to hand next year and your children will have access to them in class however, if you would like your own personal book, there are plenty of different workbooks to choose from on this website. I recommend the bundles of books as they are good value. Please be aware that there are many books to support children across the whole year on this list and by no means am I suggesting that you need them all or any! I am simply sharing the list as I have had some parents asking for additional workbooks.
Our first topics will be Romans in Britain (recapping from last year) and our Science topic will be Earth and Space.

A Note from Miss Williams
Structured days not for you?
There are also some extra challenges including times table rock stars and ixl that the children can access during school closure (log in details in their homework books). A NEW log in for ixl was sent out on Friday 17th April to all parents.
Any work you do complete, do in your homework book or the book given out before we closed.
Please see the suggested timetable on the main school closure page for how much time should be spent on academic activities.
Daily- try to complete at least one of the following:
One Maths page from the activity booklets OR ixl activity (website ) OR daily 10 activity (website )
One activity of the English booklet or a Reading sheet or ixl activity (website )
One Practical idea or creative homework task
Writing task
Three times a week
Reading a book
Year 3 and 4 spelling practise
Times table sheet (booklet given out to children) OR a times table game
Structured days not for you?
Since the start of this journey many more resources have become available to schools and parents to support the ‘learning from home’ process, including the latest resources announced by the government on Sunday
So what resources are the right ones?
Whichever resources interest and stimulate your child the most!
If you have already found a path that works with your child, well done, do not feel you have to change from it. It doesn’t matter what you are doing- if you are doing some work in any format than that’s brilliant. The main thing is to keep exercising their brains in some way- ideally both in English and Mathematics.
However, if you still haven’t found a winning formula then maybe try some of the following:
Suggested Daily Lessons |
Maths: Use the ‘White Rose Maths Hub’. Save this address in the bookmarks for ease, daily lessons are usually loaded on the webpage one week in advance. This is the same scheme/overview we follow in school, their resources are very good and they have supported the BBC Bitesize resources. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ There are some work sheets here, however you can view most of them on the screen and complete the work in your books if you do not have a printer.
|
Literacy: Both the BBC Bitesize Resources and the Oak National Academy resources may be used for your child. I suggest you choose which one to try first by asking yourself the following question: How has my child responded to the work I have asked them to do so far? If your child has been reluctant, or struggling to work at home for whatever reason then I would suggest you go to the BBC Bitesize site for English. There are a series of child friendly videos with attached tasks which would suit most pupils. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/z7s22sg/year-2-lessons/1
Reading: If your answer is more in line with- ‘my child has loved every bit of work and wants more!’ The Oak National Academy work may be more suitable. I feel it is slightly more challenging and due to the lay out and set up feels more formal and requires greater concentration. https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2/#subjects
|
BBC iplayer (including red button 9am onwards) - Primary Bitesize On top of those options detailed above, there are also BBC programmes on I-player which are different to the bbc resources on the bitesize website. They are mostly 20 minute programmes for 5-7, 7-9, 9-11 year olds of which the first episode spent about 5 minutes on a maths concept, 5 minutes on a story time, 5 minutes on history, with some quizzes thrown in. These might appeal to you if you have limited internet devices, or a super reluctant learner! |
